Cranes Mill Baptist Church
About our Church - located at 10215 FM 2673, Canyon Lake TX 78133
Cranes Mill Baptist Church was chartered in 1984. Why was the name, Cranes Mill, chosen? In the early 1850s, Texas pioneer J. B. Crain was granted land at Gum Crossing on the Guadalupe River, 17 miles northwest of New Braunfels. He built a mill, and the community around it became known as Crain's Mill. In 1872, the name was changed to Cranes Mill when a post office was established. As late as the 1940s, about 25 people lived there.
Construction on Canyon Lake started in 1958, and impoundment of water began in 1964. The lake was filled by 1968. In the process, two communities slipped beneath the waves for all time. One was Hancock. The other was nearby Cranes Mill. Cranes Mill Baptist Church chose this name to honor the God-fearing early citizens who settled this country.
Pastor Jerry Becknal has served Cranes Mill Baptist Church for 15 years, since 2004. He is originally from Lubbock, Texas. His wife was born in South Carolina and her family moved to Lubbock when she was three years old. Pastor and Mrs. Becknal have two children and five grandchildren. Both teach an adult Bible Study class. Mrs. Becknal is active in several church ministries, with a special love for the choir.
Pastor Becknal says this about the doctrine of Cranes Mill Baptist Church:
We BELIEVE! We believe that God is the all-powerful, all-knowing creator of all things, that Jesus Christ is the resurrected Lord, and salvation is by grace through faith in Him alone. We further believe in a Holy Spirit which works in and through the lives of all believers.
We believe that the Bible is God's Word and is the authority for faith and for life and that Baptism is for believers and is by immersion.
We believe that each church is autonomous and self-governing, that Christ is the head of the church and that, while each believer is a priest before God, we are called to Christian community in the body of Christ.
And we believe that we are called to Jesus' mission and to reach out around the world with His love expressed in words and in deeds.
We affirm the doctrinal statements set forth in "The Baptist Faith and Message" as adopted by the Southern Baptist Convention in 1963.

Our new choir director as of January 2019 is Mrs. Cheryl Ray. She likes those 'old time gospel songs!' She's experienced at this position and has played piano 'all her life'. Mrs. Ray invites those interested to the choir and reminds everyone that practice is at 5:00 PM on Sundays. Welcome Mrs. Ray, and thank you for stepping up!

CMBC has three Deacons. They are Arthur Montross, Rick Rothe and Alvis Rummel, left to right in photo. Deacons were first chosen in churches to solve problems that arose amongst the church fellowship. They assist the pastor and help keep harmony in the membership. They meet as a group at least quarterly. Contact the office at 210-469-6625 to speak with a Deacon, or contact a Deacon at the church.
